@BradTaylor Good question! Short answer: Patriarchy. Less-short answer: As I stated, men get to need things. Note: Men, not boys. Men need a new briefcase, boys want the new Pokemon cards. How often are men and boys grouped together? When was the last time you heard “the boys” about a group of 20+ year olds and it wasn’t something about cracking a cold one? Yet girl-math is associated to women regardless of age. So the real question is: Why don’t we have women-math? Because men-math_ is_ out there. It’s silent because far more often society does not require it for justification. Over indulgence is a genderless affliction, so why is there a phrase mocking only one? Because it’s a fight we’ve been at for a long time. Justify voting, justify having knowledge, justify being loud, justify being right, justify taking up as much space as a man. It’s just a new way women have been asked to do more for the same reward. Another way something cute was tarnished because the world can’t just let things be. The best answer to all of these why aren’t there questions is: Let’s just stop finding new ways to degrade entire sections of humanity. The world is hot enough out there without our breath on each other’s necks.
